Dear Editor, In 2003, as US forces were gearing up for the invasion of Iraq, my Army unit was attached to the Marine Corps 1st Division. As the company’s 1st Sergeant I took my place among the division’s Command Operations Center where I first met General James Mattis, the division’s commander, and John Kelly, the deputy commander.
