A network of active fault lines have been discovered on Mount Hood, which pose serious danger to the cities of Hood River, Odell, Parkdale, White Salmon, Stevenson, Cascade Locks, Government Camp and the Villages at Mount Hood — as well as Portland — researchers announced Monday.

PORTLAND (AP) — Oregon state geologists say they’ve been watching a recent swarm of small earthquakes on Mount Hood. KGW-TV reports the quakes started Sunday evening and have been occurring right beneath Government Camp.

Ten miles west of Parkdale, the north side of Mount Hood bears a several-mile-long scar representing a previously undetected seismic fault that may still be active. The fault may also represent a future threat to the valley.
