PORTLAND (AP) — The mystery of the dead honeybees in Clackamas County will take a little longer to solve. The Oregon Department of Agriculture says it collected dead bees from four locations to screen for pesticides, but has yet to test them because the lab is backed up with other projects. Agency spokesman Bruce Pokarney told the Statesman Journal newspaper that tests results might be ready within the next couple of weeks.

CORVALLIS – According to a press release from Oregon State University, an OSU researcher has reported Oregon’s first documented case of a “zombie” fly infecting a honeybee, but he doubts that the parasite at the moment poses a threat to the already beleaguered bee, which is a vital pollinator of some of the state’s key crops.
