Since Jan. 30, when the HRV girls basketball team won its first Columbia River Conference game in the past four seasons, the Eagles have been on a downward spiral.
The HRV boys basketball team played its final home game of the regular season last Friday night against the second place team in the Columbia River Conference, the Hermiston Bulldogs.
As of late, the HRV boys soccer team has struggled and at times have played “ugly,” said Head Coach Jaime Rivera, but they currently remain in first place in the 5A OSAA rankings after their 2-1 win over The Dalles on Tuesday, Oct. 10 and their 10-0 home win over Pendleton on Thursday.
After a 2-0 start by the HRV football team, they now find themselves at .500 after dropping their last two games, including a recent road loss to the Hermiston Bulldogs.
With a chance to remain tied atop the Columbia River Conference softball standings with the No. 4 5A-ranked Pendleton Buckaroos, the HRV softball team simply needed to get a win over the struggling Hermiston Bulldogs.
The Dalles boys’ basketball team gave the No. 11 Hermiston Bulldogs a scare Tuesday night in a nip-and-tuck Columbia River Conference contest played at Kurtz Gym. “It was fun to see how our guys just kept fighting and clawing their way until the end,” said TD coach Greg Cummings. “Our guys played hard for 32 minutes.”
The Hermiston Bulldogs notched 22 block touches, including six to the floor in Thursday’s four-game Columbia River Conference victory at Kurtz Gym in The Dalles.
They may be in one of the toughest leagues in the state, but the HRV softball team continues to perform well in the Columbia River Conference despite the team’s fourth-place ranking, splitting games with the sixth-ranked Hermiston Bulldogs this weekend.
