George Harrison placed ninth, Lucy Booth tacked on 12th place honors and The Dalles rattled off six top-25 two-run times at their final regular-season race on Feb. 22 atop Mount Hood Meadows on the Middlefork giant slalom course.
Race cancellations have been the theme of the last half of the season for Mount Hood League squads, so there were two giant slalom and one slalom event held last Saturday and Monday to squeeze in the remaining schedules.
While coach Dane Klindt lost seniors Ethan Martin, Petra Van Kessel-Ervin, and state-qualifier, Louis Red Cloud to graduation, the cupboard isn’t exactly bare for The Dalles ski team.
Due to the lack of snow this year, The Dalles ski team has missed out on every race on its schedule, except one, which meant coach Dane Klindt’s crew had to pull double duty last Sunday in a pair of giant slalom runs on the Paintbrush Course at Timberline Ski Resort.
A pile of eight gutted Ironman toys sat on the gym floor last week at Insitu’s RoboFlight Academy, held at Henkle Middle School in White Salmon. The remote-controlled flying toys had been stripped of their circuit boards and motors, which were put to better use in a variety of made-from-scratch drones by the 25 mostly Gorge area teens enrolled in the weeklong program, which just finished its sixth year.
Both The Dalles boys’ and girls’ ski team members put together solid enough times this past Saturday on the Middlefork Course at Mount Hood Meadows to qualify for the OISRA state meet.
Under solid conditions atop the Meadows Course, ski team members from The Dalles, Dufur and South Wasco County had six top-15 finishes in a Mount Hood Ski League slalom race Saturday.
