The Dalles Chamber of Commerce, the Army Corps of Engineers at The Dalles Dam and Gray Line of Oregon launched an “Explore The Dalles” shuttle service on Saturdays through Sept. 15. The service is a pilot program that will connect at Hood River in the morning with the New Columbia Gorge Express and return to Hood River in the afternoon to connect with bus service to Portland.

Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Fort Dalles Museum, both in The Dalles, are participating in the 2017 Blue Star Museums program, which offers free admission for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and up to five family members, from Memorial Day weekend beginning May 27, through Labor Day, Sept. 4.

Fort Dalles Museum is seeking volunteers to help out with a variety of positions at the museum and at the Anderson Homestead. The museum is looking for greeters, clerical/office, tour guides, special events, landscaping, gardening, antique vehicles and wagons, Anderson house and barn, and school outreach.

The Fort Dalles Readiness Center comes to life Friday, Jan. 15, with “Night in the Museum” activities to provide mothers and sons with plenty of bonding moments. Wonderworks, the Fort Dalles Museum and Maryhill Museum have all contributed exhibits to set the stage for the fifth annual Mother Son Jammin’ Fun Night. The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the center, 402 E. Scenic Drive.

The Fort Dalles Museum is offering free admission as part of Fort Dalles Days Saturday, July 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Surgeon’s Quarters, Antique Vehicle Buildings, and the Anderson House and Barn will all be opened to visitors.
