One of Aaron Bowman’s earliest memories is feeling lousy and going to the doctor for it. Decades of frustrating doctor’s visits later, Bowman was finally diagnosed five years ago, at age 36, with an “ultra rare” disease called Familial Chylomicronemia Syndrome (FCS).

The idea that fat could be frozen away sounds like science fiction and seems like a far-fetched idea. But it is not, and it is rooted in research done by scientists at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston – a center affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
