At the beginning of the year, The Dalles senior Jaeden Biehn set big goals for herself.
It wasn’t going to be an easy feat, however—it was going to take hours and hours of preparation.
Biehn posted two gold medals and qualified for state in three events, is an alternate in four others and earned a $250 college scholarship after picking up High Point Athlete for Timed Events at the three-day Oregon High School Equestrian Teams event, held April 5-7 at the Rim Rock Riders Event Center in Powell Butte.
Jaeden Biehn continued her surge for a state berth with a handful of top-5 marks in both individual and team events and The Dalles equestrian team improved its point total by 43 points at the second OHSET Meet held last month in Powell Butte.
While the snowy weather proved to be an adventure on the roads, The Dalles equestrian team had a promising first showing to start the 2019 campaign. Jaeden Biehn posted a pair of individual top-8 finishes and joined up with Erika Burdine and Haja Anis for four top-4 outputs, including fourth place in Team Penning, at the three-day Oregon High School Equestrian Teams event held from Feb. 22–24 at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in Redmond.
The Dalles equestrian team competed in the first of three District Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET) meets Feb. 16-18 in Redmond and posted 14 top-10 finishes. Some of those top performances were highlighted by first-place honors by the freestyle fours drill team of Tate Howell, Summer Kendall, Jaeden Biehn and McKenzie Shaw.
The Dalles Wahtonka High School equestrian team is hosting a Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Clock Tower Ales in The Dalles.
