Maddie Troutt broke a 9-all tie with a two-out RBI single to score Emma Smith as part of a four-run bottom of the sixth inning, and Kilee Hoylman escaped a late rally attempt with a strikeout and a fly out with the tying run at third base in The Dalles’ 10-9 second-game comeback victory over Hood River Valley in IMC softball action Friday from 16th Street Ballpark. Early on, it appeared as though The Dalles softball team was headed towards a blowout home victory over No. 5 Pendleton. Third-ranked TD led 10-2 through three innings and 11-4 after five, but the Lady Bucks rallied for six runs on six hits in the top of the sixth to get to within 11-10, the Hawks answered with a single run in the bottom half and Kilee Hoylman escaped a jam in the seventh frame to preserve the 12-11 win in IMC softball action Tuesday from 16th Street Ballpark.

The Dalles softball can take a lot from Tuesday’s loss – they kept fighting until the very end. Down 11-1 through four and a half innings, TD scored a run in the fifth and added five in the sixth to get to within a four-deficit, but could not finish the roaring comeback in what ended up being an 11-7 loss to No. 7-ranked Hermiston at 16th Street Ballpark.

Still with the bitter taste in their mouths from a runner-up finish at the ASA State Championships, the Troutdale Rainbows left nothing to chance last weekend in Newberg. The Bows amassed a perfect 8-0 record, capped by an 8-4 triumph against Seattle FC to capture first place at the 2017 NAFA Nationals 14U ‘B’ Championships, ending Sunday at the Crater Complex.

Nothing is going to stop the runaway train known as the Cherry City Crush 14U softball team. This past weekend in Newberg, the Crush squad did everything from throw no-hitters, hit home runs and play solid defense to finishing 5-0 to capture the 2016 NAFA National UFO Tournament.
