With the weekend off and two final league games set for Wednesday and Friday of next week, the Dufur Lady Rangers see themselves tied for second place in the Big Sky Conference following Tuesday’s 46-34 home victory over Condon-Wheeler.
One game flip-flopped the Big Sky Conference boys standings Tuesday night. The Dufur Rangers jumped into a three-way tie for first place with Ione-Arlington and Horizon Christian after defeating Sherman by a 42-32 margin Tuesday in league action in Moro.
Since starting out 0-4, the Dufur Rangers have caught fire, with four victories in a row capped by wins over Joseph and Days Creek Thursday and Friday.
The South Wasco County girls faced the toughest part of their schedule this past weekend against No. 8 Perrydale and No. 3 Joseph on back-to-back nights and ended up losing both contests by 10 points.
Things were encouraging through the first three quarters, as the Dufur Lady Rangers led by five points midway through the third quarter, until No. 7-ranked South Wasco County amped up the defense and went on a 30-6 spurt at one point in the second half to close out the game by a 50-30 girls basketball final Tuesday in Maupin.
DUFUR – The Dufur Lady Rangers extended their win streak to six games, vaulted to No. 22 in the rankings and climbed into a third-place tie with Echo after league victories over Ione and Mitchell-Spray this past weekend.
All the Dufur Lady Rangers needed was fast-paced opening half to impose their will on Arlington. Dufur peppered Arlington for a 33-15 halftime lead and staved off a second-half rally to secure a 36-27 triumph Tuesday in girls basketball play in Arlington.
Alexus Outlaw, Chloe Beeson and Raymona Meanus scored 10 points each, and the Dufur Lady Rangers took a step closer to a possible postseason bid after cruising past Mitchell-Spray, 61-9, Friday in a Big Sky girls’ basketball contest played in Dufur.
The Dufur Lady Rangers have now won three matches in a row, all by sweep, taking Tuesday’s non-league road volleyball contest over Lyle by an average margin of 9.6 points.
