The Washington State Department of Natural Resources will temporarily close all recreation lands in eastern Washington beginning Friday, July 23, 2021 due to drought and extreme fire danger.
Campfires are now banned on all lands protected from wildfire by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) east of the Cascades. This ban joins many other jurisdictions that have also prohibited campfires. “We’ve had 47 wildfires started by campfires this year,” said Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz.
A fire broke out on Mott Rd around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, caused by a lawnmower. The fire was contained around 10:30 p.m. Total acreage burned is approximately 86 acres. No structures were lost.
