Over 600 people filled the lower level of The Dalles High School auditorium for a dance contest with a familiar format on Friday, Jan. 10. After dance performances by local contestants and more, Mary Davis lifted the mirrored ball trophy as the winner of “Dancing with the Gorge Stars” season 7.
Judy Urness could hear the fire alarms going off in the background Tuesday as she called her son Charlie to tell him to stop trying to save their house on Emerson Loop Road and just get out. “But he didn’t listen to me,” she said of her 24-year-old son. “But my house is standing. I guess he gets away with it this time.”

Local all-star baseball player Carson Smith recently participated in the Under Armour National Tryout and received an invitation to play in the Winter Classic Tournament on Dec. 26, in Vero Beach, Fla. along with 100 other athletes from across the nation.

The Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation District board voted to terminate the contract of its longtime executive director, Scott Green. Nikki Lesich, Catherine Whalen and Travis Dray voted in favor of terminating the contract, while Dean Dollarhide and Marcus Denney voted against it. Green said the close vote to terminate him after nine years on the job “raised a lot of eyebrows” in the parks district.
