The Dalles Police Department will be actively enforcing the downtown parking ordinance during the holiday season with an officer on patrol along designated areas of First through Fifth streets. People living or working in the downtown blocks are prohibited from parking in front of stores in areas marked on the map shown above between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., except as allowed for deliveries.

On July 17, Hood River County Sheriff’s Office and Portland FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force conducted a joint operation with assistance from the Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team and Hood River County District Attorney’s Office to identify and apprehend individuals seeking to commit sexual acts with minor children. The operation resulted in the arrest of five males ranging in age from 16 to 44 years of age. All suspects were lodged at NORCOR.

The Dalles Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man Tuesday afternoon in connection with the fire that destroyed a spiral slide just over a week ago at Tree Top Play Park. Aaron Ray Haberman, of 210 W. 10th St., was arrested at his home without incident and is accused of second-degree arson, first-degree criminal mischief and reckless burning, said The Dalles Police Capt. Steve Baska.

It’s a “miracle,” police said, that a man sitting cross-legged on the railroad tracks in downtown The Dalles late last Friday was not killed when he was hit by a train travelling 15 mph.

The Dalles Police Department will be actively enforcing the downtown parking ordinance during the holiday season with an officer on foot patrol along designated areas of First through Fifth streets. “Most of the year, enforcement of this ordinance is complaint-driven but during the holiday season we actively enforce,” said Chief Jay Waterbury.
