In her freshman year as a softball player, Jodi Thomasian came up to the plate in a pressure situation with a runner at second base. Thomasian will use the relentless drive and passion at Clark Community College in Vancouver, Wash., where she accepted scholarships to play both softball and basketball for the Penguins.
With an opportunity to sneak into second place in the Columbia River Conference, The Dalles girls’ basketball team led by a 15-13 margin through one quarter of play, but the Hermiston Lady Bulldogs went on a 39-24 run over the final three quarters of play to lock down a 52-39 victory in The Dalles.
With a two-point setback last Friday to Sandy still hanging over their heads, The Dalles coaches Dan Telles and Craig Compton wanted to see spirited response from their girls’ basketball team Tuesday against the Dallas Dragons.
The Dalles girls’ basketball team fell behind 16-5 after one quarter and crept to within a four-point deficit late in the third quarter, but No. 1-ranked Hermiston slammed the door shut in the final period with a 15-5 run to work a 51-36 victory Friday in Columbia River Conference action at Hermiston High School.
Just because The Dalles girls’ basketball team is playing without all-state athlete Emily Bailey is no reason to believe the talent across the program isn’t just as formidable this year.
