Denim Day: Students line downtown streets with jeans

Hood River Valley High School art students installed blue jeans with anti-sexual assault messages along Oak Street on Wednesday as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week. The art was inspired by Denim Day protests, which began in Italy when a rape conviction was overturned because judges deemed wearing tight jeans as implying consent to sex.

What is the art equivalent of green thumb? Hood River Middle School eighth-graders have it, whatever it is. The students spent hours this winter and spring on a mural project paying tribute to growing of food and the people who do it.
