The D21 school board has decided not to hire a superintendent this spring but will instead name an internal interim superintendent for a year and pick up the superintendent search again later.
In an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19 across the state, schools in Oregon are now closed through Tuesday, April 28, 2020. This includes all schools in the North Wasco County School District, Superintendent Candy Armstrong said in a press release.
In accordance with new guidelines from Oregon Gov. Kate Brown—based on recommendations of the CDC, Oregon public health experts, epidemiologists, and health professionals and in order to minimize potential opportunities for the virus to spread—Northern Wasco County Public Schools will proactively begin suspending events that bring large groups of students, adults and community members together.
The 2019 graduation rate for The Dalles High School was 81.5 percent, besting the state average of 78.7 percent but falling below the previous year’s rate, 85.3 percent.
The Dalles Toastmasters Club and a speech contest Saturday, Feb. 8, is scheduled 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library in The Dalles. Also, The Dalles Mayor Rich Mays will host his monthly “Second Saturday” gathering at Cousin’s Restaurant, 2114 W. 6th Street, The Dalles from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Candy Armstrong, District 21 Superintendent, will be the Mayor’s guest. The mayor invites all residents to come share their ideals and visions for the City of The Dalles.
Two community input meetings are set for Wednesday, Nov. 6, and Wednesday, Nov. 13, to gather information from the public regarding the qualities of the next superintendent of School District 21.
