Off the heels of a 32-point loss the last time The Dalles girls’ basketball team played Hermiston, the Riverhawks climbed back into contention late in the fourth quarter down 48-46 with 22 seconds left, but Jazlyn Romero swished four consecutive free throws to give the Lady Bulldogs a 52-46 win Friday.

Through 3 2/3 innings, it looked like The Dalles Wahtonka was about to steal a critical Columbia River Conference road win against No. 10 Hermiston. The Lady Bulldogs had other plans, however. Hermiston got a home run from Abi Drotzmann, as it scored a single run in the fourth inning, added three in the fifth and tacked on another run late to pull out a 5-3 softball comeback win Friday in Hermiston. With two games left, TDW (11-12 overall, 2-8 league) hosts No. 1 Pendleton (20-4, 9-1) Tuesday, and then caps the regular season on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday in Hood River (13-8, 3-7). Still with a No. 13 rank, the Eagle Indians need to stay within the top-15 to host a state playoff contest in the last half of May.
