Basketball players from across the state had one final time to wear their school colors at the two-day 1A Oregon Basketball Coaches Association Senior All-Star Series Tournament this past weekend in Sisters. Dufur’s Chloe Beeson and South Wasco County’s Allie Noland were part of an East girls’ team that picked up two wins over the West for top honors, while the Sherman duo of Jacob Justesen and Treve Martin played to a 1-1 record, losing in the championship to the High Desert and Old Oregon League combination for runner-up status.
After holding Bryce Harrison and Hunter Winslow to nine first-half points, things looked promising for the South Wasco County Redsides, as they were down 30-16 at the half. Harrison, Winslow and Cooper Johnson then scored a combined 25 points in Condon-Wheeler’s 36-18 second-half spurt to pick up a 66-34 road victory Friday in Maupin.
The South Wasco County Redsides allowed 28 field goals, 10 3-pointers, in a 69-44 loss Saturday in a Big Sky Conference matchup against Condon-Wheeler in Fossil.
MORO – Kyle Fields tallied a season-high 24 points, including a second-half slam dunk, to help lead the No. 1-ranked Sherman Huskies to a dominating 81-34 win over Condon-Wheeler Saturday in Moro.
South Wasco County led 10-2 and 17-7 at different parts of the first half, but then Condon-Wheeler crept back into contention with the help of their pressure defense and outside shooting in a 61-38 win Friday in Maupin.
Columbia Basin Rodeo Club members Bryce Harrison, Morgan Brumley and Joely Patnode each had top-10 performances this past weekend at the state rodeo finals in Prineville to earn spots in the Silver State International Rodeo from June 27 to July 3 in Winnemucca, Nev. Harrison qualified in steer wrestling and calf roping, Brumley punched her SSIR tickets for pole bending and barrel racing, and Patnode is headed to Nevada in breakaway roping and barrels, and partner, Jacee Currin, will make the trip with Patnode for team roping.
Columbia Basin Rodeo team preparing for Silver State and Nationals It is the time of season where rodeo athletes turn it up a few notches in preparation for Silver State and Nationals. All six cowboys and cowgirls, two from junior varsity, representing the Columbia Basin Rodeo Club will extend their seasons since performing well in the Oregon High School Rodeo finals at the Crook County Fairgrounds in Prineville.
