MORO – Playing alongside state champion athletes Jacob Justesen and Treve Martin made Bradley Moe a better all-around player. The recent Sherman High School graduate recently had his name called as one of four players from the Husky baseball program as members of the 2A/1A Oregon Baseball Coaches Association 2018 All-State Team.
MORO – Over the last three years, the Sherman Huskies have secured their spot as one of the state’s premier baseball programs. In that span, the team is 51-19 overall and 29-8 in league, while outscoring opposing teams by a 637-348 margin with state quarterfinal berths in 2017 and 2018. This spring, Sherman went 16-4 and amassed a perfect 9-0 record in league, so it was a given that the all-league list would be dominated by Husky players.
PILOT ROCK – Friday’s 2A state quarterfinal baseball matchup pitted No. 3 Pilot Rock against No. 6 Sherman in what was a closely-contested affair. The Rockets battled back from a 1-0 deficit with a four-run fifth frame and managed to hold off a late-inning rally for a 4-2 triumph in Pilot Rock.
MORO – Jacob Justesen drove in the game-winning run and Brett Troutman kept his team close with another clutch pitching performance, but Cal Homer had the big hit to start the eventual game-winning rally.
With sole possession of first place on the line, the No. 8-ranked Sherman Huskies used a complete-game effort by Brett Troutman and 10-hit offensive attack to inch past No. 10 Culver Tuesday in a Blue Mountain Conference baseball clash in Moro. The Huskies led 5-2 through the first five innings, but the Bulldogs rallied for two unearned runs in the top of the sixth to make it a 5-4 score with the tying run at second base and no outs.
On a team with players from Sherman, Condon and Arlington, it can take some time before all the pieces gel. It appears the No. 10-ranked Huskies are picking the right time to get in a groove, as they extended their winning streak to eight games after a two-game sweep over Dufur by finals of 13-3 and 10-0 Saturday in Blue Mountain Conference baseball action in Moro.
The No. 9-ranked Sherman Huskies captured their sixth consecutive win, after a 20-2 mercy-ruled triumph over Dufur Tuesday at Dufur City Park.
Trey Homer had two hits and three RBIs and all-league starter Brett Troutman allowed an unearned run in a complete-game five-hitter with two strikeouts and one walk to help the No. 10-ranked Sherman Huskies to a 3-1 triumph against Weston-McEwen Tuesday in Moro.
The duo of Jacob Justesen and Brett Troutman combined for six hits, three runs scored and seven RBIs in the Sherman baseball team’s 11-0 mercy-ruled victory on the road against Union/Cove Tuesday.
The Sherman baseball team nearly put up identical numbers from a season ago, with four more league wins, one more win overall, and a quarterfinal state berth, and as a result, eight players picked up Blue Mountain Conference honors, including five first-team winners.
