Steven Sliwa, formerly of Insitu, has been awarded the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award following his nomination by the Cascade Pacific Council, Hood River, Oregon and the Boy Scouts of America. This award is granted to Eagle Scouts who, after 25 years, have distinguished themselves in their life work and who have shared their talents with their communities on a voluntary basis.

SEATTLE — The Boy Scouts of America has revoked its charter agreement with a Seattle church that refused to remove a gay troop leader after the organization withdrew his membership. A Boy Scouts attorney told Rainier Beach United Methodist Church last week that it no longer could host troops under the Boy Scouts name.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Faced with a backlash against their ban on gays, the Boy Scouts of America are surveying their members on a potential change in policy. A questionnaire distributed to 1.1 million adult Scouts uses fictional situations to discern where Scouting’s membership falls on questions of homosexuality, gays camping with children and gays in church leadership. It allows adult Scouts to indicate a range of feelings, from strong support to strong opposition to the ban on gays.
