Falcons, hawks, owls and eagles housed in the Raptor Interpretive Program at the Columbia Gorge Discovery will soon have a daytime view of the river — and visitors will have an outdoor view of the birds — with the completion of a new display area at the center Wednesday morning.

Pi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, has selected Bambi Foy to receive the 2017 Woman of Achievement Award. Foy’s selection came as a result of her work as the raptor education coordinator at Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum, a position she’s held for nearly six years.

Union Pacific Railroad’s plan to add roughly four miles of new track near Mosier might not have been controversial several years ago. However, times have changed, primarily due to several derailments involving trains carrying crude oil that exploded and burned and — in one particularly horrific accident in eastern Canada — took the lives of dozens of people.
