His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi has invited me to visit his country, the United Arab Emirates, come April 2016. Well, he’s sort of invited me, a little part of me — a six-inch handmade paper circle, formed inside a two-quart empty container of Nancy’s Nonfat Plain Yogurt, and made from construction paper scraps and a handful of dried prunes.

Years ago I started planting fruit trees in the back yard. I planted five different kinds of apple trees, a cherry and a pear. The next year, I planted five different kinds of apple trees, a cherry and a pear because the deer had eaten the first batch down to the nubs. I bought wire fencing and made cages around each new tree.
