Letter to editor: WWII history

To the editor: I share the surprise of Andretta Schellinger that the Chronicle, such a friend of our veterans, made no mention of the 73rd anniversary of Pearl Harbor. But I must gently correct the author of the wonderful history of military airplane nose art (From Knights to Skulls: The Cultural Evolution of Nose Artwork) when she writes “The attack on Dec. 7, 1941. was not only the largest single loss of life that the United States military suffered but also the start of the largest war in the modern era.”

Navy to try landing drone on carrier

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Navy will attempt to land a drone the size of a fighter jet aboard an aircraft carrier for the first time Wednesday, showcasing the military’s capability to have a computer program perform one of the most difficult tasks a pilot is asked to do.

Navy Seaman Jorge A. Ceja, a 2008 graduate of Hood River Valley High School, along with 500 Sailors and Marines assigned to the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group (CSG) recently arrived in Norfolk, Va., following a seven-and-a-half-month deployment supporting operations in the Mediterranean and the Arabian Seas.
