The Dalles High Riverhawks resumed their OSAA Class 4A girls golf schedule after a three-week break by playing in the nine-team, Nels Nelson Invitational Tournament on April 8 at Wildhorse Golf Resort in Pendleton.
The Riverhawks had three players and were not eligible for a team score. Senior Katelyn Vassar led the trio with her a 105, followed by freshman Kailiee Klindt (125), and junior Madi Grant (136).
“Katelyn struggled on the front nine and even though she shot higher than she wanted to, I was very proud of her because she battled all the way and she had a birdie near the end of the round,” said Coach Nate Timmons.
The Riverhawks then played in a Gorge rivalry dual matchup April 10 with the Class 5A Hood River Valley High Eagles on the nine-hole The Dalles Country Club course in The Dalles. The Riverhawks won with their team score of 255 for nine holes. Vassar, a three-time OSAA state qualifier, led 10 players with a 45. Klindt (64), Grant (65), and Morgan Kalsch (81) rounded out the Riverhawks’ top-four players.
“It was a good way to play nine holes and have some good competition and it doesn’t involve much traveling. We don’t get to see Hood River in any of our tournaments during the season, so it’s kind of nice to play them,” said Timmons.
The Riverhawks will play in their next tournament April 22 at the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A state preview tournament at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie, which is the site of the OSAA state tournament May 13-14.
