Radon Mitigation York PA is the focus of a new free directory from York PA Radon Pros, launched as state data shows York County basements averaging close to 10 picocuries per liter of radon. That is about two and a half times the level at which the EPA recommends action.
The average comes from more than 18,000 York County radon tests reported to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection since 1990. York County is classified as EPA Radon Zone 1, the agency's highest risk category, and roughly 40 percent of homes statewide test above the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L. According to the EPA, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States.
The launch comes at the start of the heating season, when closed windows make radon tests most reliable, and readings tend to run highest.
A list built for homeowners on a deadline
The directory, live at yorkparadonpros.com, profiles radon mitigation companies serving York, PA, including firms based in York, Red Lion, Wellsville, and Gettysburg. Each profile was researched from public sources, including company websites, Better Business Bureau records, customer reviews, and Pennsylvania DEP certification records. Listings are not sold.
Many homeowners first learn their radon level during a home sale, with a short inspection window and little idea what a fair price or a proper installation looks like. The site publishes typical York County pricing of $800 to $1,500 for a standard system, along with the factors that raise it, such as stone foundations, crawl spaces, and finished basements.
The certification gap most homeowners miss
Pennsylvania requires anyone who tests for or mitigates radon for pay to hold current DEP certification. A national credential such as NRPP does not satisfy that requirement by itself, and neither does a home improvement contractor registration number. York County sits on the Maryland line, and contractors based across the border still need Pennsylvania DEP certification to work here. The site explains how to look up any contractor's DEP number in about two minutes.
