New poetry collection builds on the message of You’re Not Alone and features ROOMS, a rock opera that transforms poetry into an immersive journey through music and storytelling
WESTPORT, ONTARIO - October 28, 2026 - After 33 years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy, including 21 years at sea, Canadian poet Jay Bramburger is bringing together decades of writing and lived experience in Light After Dark, a new poetry collection exploring love, loss, loneliness, emotional struggle, perseverance, connection and the difficult journey toward rediscovering light.
At the heart of the collection is a simple idea: finding light does not mean pretending the darkness never existed.
Rather than offering easy answers or suggesting that difficult experiences simply disappear, Light After Dark explores what it means to carry them forward without allowing them to determine where a person's story ends.
The collection represents an evolution from Bramburger's first book, You're Not Alone, which was built around a message of connection: whatever someone may be facing, there can be profound value in discovering that another person understands.
With Light After Dark, that conversation moves forward.
What happens after loss? After isolation? After the moments that change how someone sees themselves and the world around them? How does a person begin finding light when darkness has become familiar?
For Bramburger, some of those questions eventually demanded more than poetry on the page.
ROOMS: WHEN THE POETRY BECOMES MUSIC
Featured within Light After Dark is ROOMS, a rock opera that expands the emotional and psychological landscape of the collection through poetry, narrative, music and storytelling.
ROOMS takes its audience through a series of increasingly intense interior spaces, using the energy and emotional range of rock music to explore territory that conventional poetry alone could not express in quite the same way.
Rather than existing as a separate musical project, ROOMS forms part of the architecture of Light After Dark. It gives another voice to the book's exploration of isolation, struggle, identity and the internal battles people often carry privately.

The result is a collection designed not simply to be read, but experienced.
Much of Bramburger's poetry was written across different periods of his life, long before his retirement from the Royal Canadian Navy. The poems capture relationships, losses, questions, memories and moments of reflection accumulated over decades.
His military career forms an important part of that story without defining all of it.
Thirty-three years in the Royal Canadian Navy—and 21 years spent at sea
—brought experiences of separation, endurance and perseverance. But the emotional territory of Bramburger's writing extends beyond military life to experiences recognizable across backgrounds and generations.
“I don't believe finding light means erasing the darkness. Some experiences stay with us. What matters is discovering that they do not have to decide where our story ends. You're Not Alone was about reaching someone in that darkness. Light After Dark is about what can happen when we begin trying to find our way through it.” — Jay Bramburger
That progression connects Bramburger's work.
You're Not Alone offers companionship—the recognition that pain, grief and loneliness do not have to be experienced in complete isolation.
Light After Dark asks what may come next: the uneven process of moving forward, rediscovering parts of oneself and recognizing that moments of possibility can exist alongside difficult memories.
And within that journey, ROOMS goes deeper, using the scale and intensity of a rock opera to enter the psychological spaces people do not always reveal to others.
Together, the works form an evolving conversation about experiences that are often carried quietly. They do not promise that every wound disappears.
They offer something more grounded: recognition, connection and the possibility that darkness can remain part of a person's story without becoming its final chapter.
