(NAPSI)—For Black Friday 2025 or at any time, you can give the gift of great sleep to your houseguests or loved ones. Proper sleep can improve heart health, weight management, immune system and even mood. Here are some tips to help you choose the right sleep-support products that can help year-round.
Mattresses
Americans are divided on firm versus soft mattresses, so for houseguests, consider a mattress with adjustable firmness or a dual-sided mattress (one side firm, one soft).
One thing everybody agrees on: peace of mind. To get that, many choose a mattress made with CertiPUR-US® certified foam to ensure the polyurethane foam has been tested for chemicals that can harm human health or contribute to poor indoor air quality.
These can include formaldehyde, ozone depleters, carcinogenic flame retardants, mercury, lead and other heavy metals, plus phthalates regulated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
You can use the CertiPUR-US app (available on both the Apple App and Google Play stores) or online directory while shopping.
Pillows
Side sleepers need a thicker, firmer pillow that fills the gap between head and shoulder. Stomach sleepers often prefer a thinner, softer pillow to keep the neck in alignment. The ideal pillow for back sleepers cradles the head with contouring or extra fluffiness.
For pillows that contain foam, you can again rely on the CertiPUR-US directory to make a smart choice. Since pillow preference is personal, when giving one, consider a gift card to a company with a generous return policy—look for a return window of at least 30 days, although some companies offer a longer window for a thorough “rest test.”
Sheets
High-tech cooling sheets, made with moisture-wicking fabric, may be a good splurge gift, although you can find high-quality cooling sheets at a reasonable price.
For guest beds, use crisp, cool percale sheets in warmer months and smooth sateen sheets in cooler months.
Don’t stress about thread count—the sweet spot is usually just 300 to 500 threads per square inch.
White-Noise Machines
White-noise machines (or pink noise or brown noise) make a great gift or guest room accessory.
The difference? White noise is equal in strength across all frequencies (like static). Pink noise is more intense in the lower frequencies (like rain falling or a waterfall). Brown noise reduces the higher frequencies even more and is grainier than pink noise (like waves crashing).
Choose a machine with a wide variety of sounds and that is no louder than 50 decibels.
Blackout Products
Pamper your houseguests by blocking out light, especially blue light, to stimulate the body’s natural melatonin production and circadian rhythms. Dark-colored products can also absorb heat, so look for light-colored blackout blinds and curtains that cover the entire window opening.
An easy alternative is a sleep mask—a great stocking stuffer.
Night-Lights
Guests are in unfamiliar territory, so help them out with a red-light night-light in key places, such as the bathroom. A red light does not interrupt the brain’s sleep patterns the way blue or yellow light does.
Alarm Clocks
It’s better to avoid having smartphones in bedrooms, so give an old-fashioned alarm clock. Look for one with no light or a display that turns off. Some even wake you up with light, like a sunrise.
Sleep Monitors
Your loved ones can track the quality of their rest with a sleep monitor. Whether this is a watch, ring, or bedside monitor, look for a long battery life. Since the preference is personal, so consider a gift card. Many popular sleep monitors require a monthly subscription, so factor that into your decision.
