Winifred Elsie Bodolay, born Rose Elsie Wright, passed away peacefully early on Sept. 1, 2017, at her residence in Flagstone Assisted Living in The Dalles, Ore. She was 99 years old. Winnie was born February 3, 1918, in Lakewood, Ohio, to English immigrant parents James and Mathilda Wright.
She is survived by her son, Joseph, and daughter-in-law Margaret, of Lyle, Washington; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph; daughters, Joyce and Barbara; and sisters, Emily, Doris, Ruth, and Lily.
Winnie and Joe Bodolay were married in 1939 in Ohio. They moved with their children to southern California, in 1947, where they remained for 63 years. In 2010, they moved to The Dalles, Ore., to be closer to their son, Joe. Winnie’s husband of 71 years passed later that year.
Winnie enjoyed crafting, involvement in her church, camping, shooting dice, and above all the company of her family and friends. She was a kind-hearted, caring, and loving woman who touched the hearts of everyone she met.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sept. 30, 2017, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in The Dalles.
