Bill Van Nice died of heart disease at the age of 65 on September 2, 2016 at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Ore. He was the first child born to Dean and Beverly Van Nice, in The Dalles, Ore. He went to school and lived most of his life in The Dalles; graduating from TDHS in 1969. He had worked many years in the hospitality industry, was a service manager for Pomona Meadows, and part-owner of Fun Country in the 1980’s. When he lived in Washington, he was a mortgage banker and parts manager for Sears. He was a certified electronic equipment service technician.
Bill was a life-long member of BPOE. He enjoyed visiting with friends at the Meals-on-Wheels meal site at the Senior Center. He grew up in the First Christian Church and attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in recent years. Bill was a member of Alcohol Anonymous and had achieved 29 years sobriety.
Bill is survived by his sweetheart, Jenny Curtis, and mother, Beverly Van Nice; his daughter, Mindy Doughty, son-in-law, Bob Doughty of Eugene; son B.J. Kirk, daughter-in-law Tanya Kirk of Keizer; grandchildren Wyatt Kirk, Kaitlyn Doughty, Jackson Doughty, and Rosemary Kirk; brothers David Van Nice of Vancouver and Scott Van Nice of Cove along with five nieces and nephews, and three cats.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on October 15, 2016 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Mid-Columbia Senior Center ice machine fund.
