Walter Clinton (Windy) Windom (78) of Maupin, Oregon died at his home on December 20, 2013. He was born in Bend, Oregon to Walter Douglas Windom and Clara Ida May (Pitcher) Windom. He was the oldest of six children.
The son of a cowboy, Clinton followed in his father’s footsteps and easily adopted the lifestyle working as a buckaroo for many ranches throughout his adulthood including the Kittredge Ranch on the Klamath Marsh, the Alvord Ranch in Harney County and the J- Spear Ranch in Paisley, Oregon.
Clint served his country in the Army from 1957-1960 where he was stationed in both Korea and Greenland.
He later moved to Sweet Home, Oregon and was working in the logging industry when he met the love of his life, Bonnie Pitts. They were married on July 4, 1969 and honeymooned in a cow camp above Paisley, taking care of three rancher’s herds through the summer.
Late in the spring of 1970 they moved to the Maupin area where they raised their four children; Chris, Clarice, Kelly and Aubrey.
Clint immersed himself in the Maupin community. He became involved in Maupin Little League, was elected to City Council, member of the Mid-Columbia Council of Governments, became a driver and first responder on the Maupin Ambulance Service and was with Maupin Fire Department for almost 20 years, serving as the Fire Chief for over five.
Clinton succumbed to his illness at his home in Maupin on December 20, 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie I (Pitts) Windom; Son, Chris and wife Debera Windom of Sweet Home, Oregon; Daughter Clarice and husband Dan Orman of Corvallis, Oregon; Son, Aubrey Windom of Maupin; seven grandchildren and one great grand-child.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Clara; an infant sister and his beloved son Kelly Carter Windom in 2012.
A celebration of life service will be held on January 18 at 2pm at the American Legion Hall in Maupin, Oregon. There will be a potluck following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Maupin Ambulance Service or Hood River Heart of Hospice.
