Von Eugene Sidman

Von Eugene Sidman, 88, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon passed away at home October 1, 2014 with family by his side.

Von was born December 21, 1925 in Lebanon, Nebraska the third of four children to Charles and Helen (Catt) Sidman. Following High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving three years and saw action aboard ship in the Pacific at Okinawa and The Philippines. After his discharge from the Navy, Von attended Kearney State College in Nebraska and later located to St. Francis, Kansas where he met his future wife Loretta Zimbelman. They were married June 4, 1949. Von worked twenty years for the Bureau of Reclamation in Kansas, Nebraska, California, Texas and then The Dalles, Oregon in 1964. He also worked as a shipping foreman for Stadelman Fruit for twenty years. Von was a gifted musician. He played the trombone and had a beautiful tenor voice. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church for many years where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Von loved their small farm on Mill Creek Road, South of The Dalles where they lived for forty years.
