Steven Craig Trapp, loving husband, father, and grandfather, transitioned from this life in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his closest family on September 22, 2018. There are not words, these or any other, that could sufficiently describe the character of the man this world lost that day.
Steve was born the second of five children to Milford and Anna (May) Trapp on February 20, 1958, in Portland, Ore. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to The Dalles where Steve spent his childhood years and later met the love of his life, Nancy (Hughes) Trapp. They married in December 1977, one year after graduating from The Dalles High School.
Steve started his electrical apprenticeship that same year, initiating a 41-year career in the electrical industry. He took great pride in his memberships with NECA and IBEW Local 48 and was particularly proud of the opportunities he had to integrate the mission and values of both. He culminated his career as the Vice President of Construction at Christenson Electric, while also serving as a member of the NECA Committee for the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), the Oregon State Energy Board, and the Oregon State Electrical and Elevator Board, a position to which he was appointed by the Governor of Oregon.
Steve and Nancy had three daughters, Jenny, Julie and Jamie, that they raised together in SE Portland. Though he always joked about being outnumbered, Steve’s girls were the pride, joy and soul of his life. Once all three girls were grown, Steve and Nancy pursued their own dreams by purchasing and working a 5-acre farm in Redland, Ore., that they adoringly named “Trappville”.
Steve was a long-time member of Mount Scott Park Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and hunting with his family. He cherished cruises and vacations with Nancy so much so that he usually planned the next one before the current one was complete. He also had passions for cooking, classic cars, golf, and working on projects around the farm.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Anna Trapp and his sister-in-law, Linda Remington. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children Jenny & Mike Flonacher, Julie & Heath Ofstead, and Jamie & Chad King; grandchildren Rosilind (12), Lois (10), Tierney (8), Weston (5), Annie (4), Steven (1), and Halle (2 wks). Additionally, he is survived by his parents-in-law Larry & Lois Hughes; siblings Terry Trapp (Brenda), Ron Trapp (ex-Candace), Vicky Trapp-Elliott (Doug), and Lisa Whedon (Harold); siblings-in-law Randy Hughes (Sharon) and Julie Peterson; Linda’s husband, Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews. A private ceremony and interment will be held on September 27, 2018 at Redland Pioneer Cemetery in Oregon City, Ore. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 PM on October 6, 2018 at Mount Scott Park Presbyterian Church, 5512 SE 73rd Ave, Portland, OR 97206. Reception to follow at Redland Family Farm Event Venue in Oregon City, Ore.
