Stanley (Dick) Richard Coulson, 72, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon passed away on February 17, 2018.
He was born September 18, 1945, at the Long Beach Naval Base in California. He was the oldest of two children to Stanley and Violet Ruth (Fulmer) Coulson. He grew up in Long Beach, Calif., and graduated from Artesia High School in Lakewood, Calif., in 1962 where he first got involved as an actor in musical productions.
He married Carleen McMurtry on August 13, 1967 in Long Beach, Calif. Dick was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1968 and was stationed in Germany where he served for two years.
He and Carleen lived in Riverside, then Moreno Valley, Calif., Dick worked at General Telephone (Verizon) and was heavily involved with coaching and umpiring Little League baseball in his spare time.
In 1991, they moved to The Dalles where Dick immediately returned to the stage, appearing in many plays and musicals including Man of La Mancha, Anything Goes, On Golden Pond and Sound of Music, which his entire family took part in.
After Carleen’s death in 2002, Coya Milsap came into Dick’s life. They were married on October, 16 2004, at Maryhill Museum. Dick, with Coya always by his side, was an active Loyal Member of the Moose for more than 15 years and a member of the American Legion.
Over the course of his life, he mentored over 4,500 youth in his various volunteer services. He enjoyed golf, pool, fantasy football (8 time champion), singing, board games, travelling and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He also loved his dog and loyal companion, Mocha.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Coya (Milsap) Coulson, The Dalles; his children and families; Karla and Michael Schafer and children; Kayli DeBernardi, Troy and Gabriel Chamness; Kelli and Dan Farrer and children; Sean and Quinnton Upton; Sean Kennedy and Beth Cartwright and child; Jordan Hesselink; Casey Coulson and children; Carlee and Cooper Coulson; Sara Kennedy Adams and Michael Adams and children; McKenna and Violet Adams; Celsi and Allan Gebhard and children; Russell and Aidan Gebhard; Calvin McAllister and child Alex McAllister; as well as his brother Donald Lawrence Coulson. He had three great grandchildren, Logan, Jaylen and Devin DeBernardi.
A memorial potluck service will be held Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge (233 East 3rd St, The Dalles, OR). The family requests monetary donations be sent to his wife, Coya Coulson, 911 Federal St, Apt 6, The Dalles, OR 97058.
