Ronald (Ron) Ray Carter, 74-years-old, The Dalles, Ore., passed away on Sept. 9, 2017, at Oregon Health and Science University from complications of Leukemia.
Ron was born in The Dalles on March 4, 1943, the youngest of four children to Ray and Wilma (Starkey) Carter. He was raised in Appleton, Wash., and later moved to Yakima, Wash., as a teenager, graduating from high school in Yakima. Ron moved to The Dalles not long after school and went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad, where he was employed for the next 27 years. He made many lifelong friends from the railroad.
On Feb. 15, 1964, he married Verona (Kay) Cox.
Ron enjoyed hunting with his sons and friends. He also enjoyed yard sales and auctions.
Ron and Kay started their own business in 1986, The Old Mill Bargain Center. Ron was active at the store until his death. Ron also made many lifelong friends while operating the business.
Ron is survived by sons, Keith (Mariana), Mike (Wendy), Scott; grandson Cody; and brother Jerry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Kay; daughter Carol; sister Racine; brother Larry and his parents.
At his request, there will be no service. Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and Home at Last Humane Society.
