Robert (Bob) Lewis Proffitt, 80, of The Dalles, Ore., passed away, Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017.
Bob was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Summersville, W. Va., to Henry Ward and Parama Faye (Evans) Proffitt. He graduated from Summersville High School in 1955. He moved to California in 1956. On Nov. 28, 1957, he married the former Sue Ann Bass. Bob was employed with telephone companies in California and Oregon, and ended his working career with Communication Workers of America. He was an avid sportsman, hunting and fishing often. He coached Little League baseball for about 15 years. He also enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Sue Ann Proffitt; three children, Dinah Lee (Proffitt) Baggenstos and her husband Rick, Robert Eric Proffitt and his wife Julie, and Susan Faye (Proffitt) Wolf and her husband, Ken; siblings, Helen Ruhnke, James Proffitt, Cathy Tapia, and Errol Proffitt; grandchildren Luke Baggenstos, John Baggenstos, Kyrie Young, Sarah Proffitt, and Kayla Wolf; five great grandchildren, and many other loving nieces, nephews, and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ward and Pat; sister Ada (Proffitt) Spalding, and granddaughter Kara Baggenstos.
A celebration of life open house will be held 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, at Cornerstone Church, 1313 Mt. Hood St., The Dalles, Ore., 97058.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rowena Wildlife Clinic, or the Heart of Hospice in The Dalles.
