Renato ‘Ray’ Vergori, 67, a resident of The Dalles, Oregon, died at home surrounded by his family Friday, February 14, 2014.
Ray was born Renato Giovanni Battista Vergori, February 20, 1946 in Arenesano, Lecce, Italy the oldest of two children to Carmelo and Maria (Konfederatenko) Vergori. He was raised and educated in the U.S. and Italy. Ray served two tours with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. On June 16, 1973 he and Nancy Lee McCarthy were married. A resident of The Dalles for the past thirty-four years, Ray worked as Chief Power House Operator at The Dalles Dam and retired from the Corps of Engineers after 42 years of government service. Upon retiring, he continued working part time for the Wasco County P.U.D. Ray also owned Vergori Orchards on Cherry Heights and was a member of The Dalles Cherry Growers. He enjoyed farming, agriculture, the outdoors and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter Christina, son Timothy and his wife Darice,
father Carmelo Vergori and step mother Maria Raffaele Vergori, sister Agnes Manca and her husband Gabriele of Arenesano, Italy, grandchildren Christian, TiAhnna, Noah, Zion and numerous relatives and close friends.
Services will be held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Life in Christ Center, where he was a member. An additional service will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at Mt. Scott Funeral Home in Portland with burial at Willamette National Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
