Peter Carl Westenskow, age 92, of Imbler, Ore., more recently of The Dalles, Ore., died May 19, 2015 with his daughter, two grandsons and his wife of 66 years by his side.
Peter was born in Imbler, Ore., on May 13, 1923 to the late Lamar and Meredith (Kent) Westenskow. Peter served in the United States Navy after High School. But farming, from the moment he could walk and carry his first bucket of water was his love. He carried on this family tradition and made it his successful vocation until he retired. However, his greatest accomplishment came when he married his wife, Faith June Lee in December of 1948. They had two children, Brenda Westenskow of The Dalles and their late son Leslie who died at the age of 26.
Many things could be said about Peter as a man, but anyone who ever met him remembers his heart. He was kind, loving, generous, honest and operated with integrity in everything he did. He was a leader in his community and was just as concerned about the success of his neighbor as he was his own family. He was a husband, father and role model to his two grandsons. Despite his tough exterior he greeted his wife, daughter, friends and family as 'honey' and always did so with a smile and a genuine enthusiasm and love that was infectious. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, riding motorcycles and spending time with his family.
Peter is survived by his wife Faith, daughter Brenda and grandsons, Adin Nelson, his wife Brenda; Brennon Moore, his wife Breeanna and his great granddaughter Rowyn (Roro) Nelson with whom he adored. Also, his siblings, Myrtha Fields, Dean and Marilyn Westenskow, Joe and Bev Westenskow, Mary and Jim Cox, Carolyn Frank, numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Summerville Cemetery Chapel. Interment will follow. Viewing will be held Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Daniels Funeral Home in La Grande from 3-5 p.m. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
