Peggy Howe (93), passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family April 1, 2015.
Peggy was born in 1922 in Portland, Ore., to Frances and Vaneer Howard. She had one brother, Arden, who was eight years older, since deceased.
Peggy Howard met Jack Howe in Depoe Bay, Ore., during high school. They were married as soon as they graduated (at eighteen) and they celebrated 71 plus years of marriage. Jack passed away in 2012.
Peggy had three children: Greg (Linda), Roger (EJ), and Jeanine (Bruce) Dirksen; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Ashley and John Howe, Keith and Eric Howe, and Rob, Leah, Lisa, and Paul Dirksen. She also had twelve great grandchildren: Aiden, Declan, Bella, Jaxson, Orlando, Savannah, Berkley, Connor, Caleb, Abby, Jocelyn and Sergio. How she loved them all!
The loves of her life were her Lord and Savior, her husband, Jack, and her family. She was devoted to them all. Christmas Eve, (a highlight), was always at her home with homemade clam chowder, rolls and pies waiting.
She was an organizer at heart, so whatever committee she was on she was soon the head coordinator. She served as den mother for Cub Scouts and Brownies. She was involved with the Hospital Auxiliary and she was a member of P.E.O. for over fifty years, serving on each committee in turn.
She was very active at Calvary Baptist Church where she was a member since 1946. She held Good News Bible clubs in her home and served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
She wrote many poems and comedy skits, played the piano, sewed and crocheted. She entertained many friends in her home and opened her home to politicians when Jack was mayor of The Dalles.
She enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin with family and friends where she played backgammon for hours with Jack.
She was classy, intelligent, funny, witty, and hospitable, a Godly woman who was always ready to listen and pray for each and every concern. To know her was to love her.
A Celebration of Life will occur at Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles, Saturday April 18th at 11 a.m.
