Pauline Lucy Muessig Alford passed away Nov. 3, 2018. She was born June 26, 1927, to Paul and Lucy Marie (McConnel) Muessig. She attended Lincoln High School. Her younger brother Delbert Wayne Muessig passed away this past May.
She wed Elmer Burton Alford and they raised three boys, William Paul (Bing), Jeffrey Wayne, and Roger Melbourne.
Pauline worked for The Dalles School District 12 in the administration office for 30 years doing bookkeeping and payroll.
Pauline and Elmer operated Al’s Barber Shop. They were among the founders of Western Little League Baseball. Elmer announced the games and Pauline kept score. They supported their boys baseball teams.
They were avid dancers and started Star and Circle square dance club in the late 1950s. They taught many couples how to square dance and round dance. They wrote seven round dances for the Blue Star Label of which “Fraulein” was the number one round dance in the USA in 1963 and is still danced to this day.
The Alford family took many trips to the beach, Lost Lake, Wallowa Lake and Crater Lake.
Upon retirement, Pauline volunteered at Hood River School District administration office and Mid-Columbia Healthcare Equipment. She knitted hats and blankets for newborns at the Mid-Columbia Medical Center and for the newborns of active Marines.
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
She is survived by her sons, Bing, Jeff (Laurie), and Roger; grandsons, Jason, Daniel, and Mitchell.
