Lucille died August 25, 2015 in Portland. She was the youngest of three children born to Lester & Hazel (Ooley) Thouvenel on April 15, 1922 in Condon, Ore. When she was six, the family moved to The Dalles. Growing up, she worked as an usher at the Granada Theatre & at Greta’s, a local clothing store. During World War II, she was one of two local “Victory Girls” who sold over $1,000,000 in War Bonds. Lucille married Vernon Kelly March 25, 1943 in The Dalles and they honeymooned on the train to Salt Lake City where two days later Vernon reported for duty in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After basic training, Lucille joined him in Texas. Upon Vernon’s discharge in 1946, they returned to The Dalles, where they raised their three sons.

Vernon retired from wheat ranching in 1969 and they were forever “on the move”, traveling between The Dalles; Sun Valley, Idaho; and the Oregon Coast. Lucille was a member of PEO, St. Peter’s Catholic Church and in her earlier years, enjoyed volunteering at the hospital auxiliary, where she served as President and was a buyer for the gift shop.
