Lafayette “Lafie” Leonard Foster, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, passed away at his home, January 22, 2016. He was 95.
He was born in The Dalles, Oregon, to Claude and Susan (Davis) Foster on August 18, 1920, the youngest of four. He grew up in The Dalles, where he attended The Dalles High School, till 1939. He entered into the United States Army, September 16, 1940, where he worked as a cook, and darkroom man. On February 18, 1951, he and Betty Ann (Ramsey) were married in The Dalles, Oregon.
Lafayette worked as a professional photographer, starting from 1951. He would also serve in the National Guard, worked as a volunteer at The Dalles Fire Department and worked for The Dalles Chronicle as a photographer and pressman for 32 years. His many hobbies included wood working, radio controlled airplanes, intarsia, and whirligigs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty.
Lafayette is survived by his children, Roxann S. Foster of The Dalles, Oregon; Pamela J. Kara of Woodburn, Oregon; Mike Foster of Puyallup, Washington. Grandchildren are Christy, Kimberly, Kelsey, Randy, Diana, and Christopher. He is further survived by 10 great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Saturday at 11AM on, January 30, at the I.O.O.F. 3 Mile Cemetery in The Dalles. We would like to invite you to join us, at the Eagles Lodge in The Dalles at 1:00 PM to celebrate Lafie’s life.
