Kermit Dennis “Denny” Peterson, 74, a resident of Tualatin, Ore., and former resident of The Dalles, Ore., died July 10, 2013, at a Tualatin hospital.
He was born June 25, 1939, in Oregon City, Ore. He was raised and educated in The Dalles, graduating from The Dalles High School, where he was a star baseball player. He then attended the University of Oregon, where he also played baseball.
He was signed by the New York Mets and played for Santa Barbara of the California League.
In 1962, he and Shirley Dillman were married in The Dalles.
He completed his education and returned to The Dalles where he taught and coached at The Dalles Wahtonka High School for 30 years.
He was a member of The Dalles Country Club. He enjoyed golf and University of Oregon baseball. He was instrumental in having Oregon Duck baseball, which was dropped in 1981 and reinstated in 2009.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Debby Gremmels and her husband John, grandson Nicholas and sister Linda.
Private family services will be Saturday, July 13, at 2 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. 18th Street Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the University of Oregon Baseball organization.
