Kathleen “Katie” C. Spadt passed away on April 10, 2018, in The Dalles, Ore., at the age of 95. She was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Yakima, Wash., to Nathan and Myrtle (Buzzard) Coontz. She grew up in the Yakima Valley with her three brothers and one sister.
She graduated from Lower Naches High School, Naches, Wash., in 1942.
In 1944, she enlisted in the United States Navy and served proudly until 1946.
Katie moved to Wishram, Wash., sometime around 1950. She hired out with the Spokane, Portland and Seattle railroad in 1952 and worked there until her retirement in 1983. After retirement, she served on the Wishram Town Council and was a strong supporter of the Wishram Fire Department and the Wishram School District. In 2011, she moved to The Dalles and lived there until her death.
Katie is survived by her daughters, Cindy Johnson of Dufur, and Cheryl Jacobson of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; granddaughter, Nicole Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Delton and Aldan Coontz, both of Yakima, Wash., Verdun Coontz of Spokane, Wash.; and sister Alta Jean Rosato of Danbury, Conn.
