Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Joe was born in Wilbur, Neb. on June 18, 1928, to Joseph and Josephine Spurek, the fourth of four children and lived until May 7, 2014.
He attended school in Wilbur, had one year of college and then went into the Navy. He served two years and never went to sea. He worked as an electrical mechanic for aircraft.
He worked in heavy construction, but Joe was a carpenter at heart. He loved to build things. He worked in the assessor’s office when Mac Woods was still there. In later years, he loved to travel. He RV’ed with his wife, Dorthey, for 15 years and had some wonderful trips. In 1994, they purchased a home at Happy Trails Resort in Surprise, Ariz. and became “snow birds”, spending six months in each place.
For fun, he fished every chance he got and played golf. He was also a bridge player and a whiz at Sudoku.
He was a member of the Elks Club for over 50 years and The Dalles Country Club.
He was preceded in death by all of his siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Dorthey; son, Michael; step-sons, Curt Corson and Brett Corson; several grandchildren, including Ilse Corson of The Dalles; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Providence Hospice or The Salvation Army.
