John Lorrin Alger passed away at his home in Lebanon, Oregon on January 20, 2016. He had been a long time resident of The Dalles prior to moving to Lebanon in August of 2015.
John was born January 21, 1934 in Centralia, Washington to Russell and Mary (Kough) Alger. John received his High School Diploma while serving in the Army. He went on to graduate from San Jose State College, with a Degree in Accounting. He worked for Pacific Gas and Electric in San Jose, Ca. for many years before starting his own Accounting/Bookkeeping Business. John was a successful business owner and entrepreneur until he retired at 77 years young.
John was born and raised Catholic. He joined the San Jose Baptist Church as a young man. John met his first wife Diane (Went) at church and married in 1960. They had two children, Judy and John. He and Diane divorced in 1966.
John married Rachael Holmstedt in 1970 and they had one child, Tiffany.
John is survived by his daughters Judy, Tiffany, and son John. He was grandpa to his six grandchildren; Andrew, Elizabeth, Daniel, Ashlyn, Bailey and Shelby. He was "Papa" John to his great granddaughter Avery who brought him so much joy.
John also leaves behind 4 very special friends; Dee Swearingen, Herb Schmidt and Cheryl Gustafson, of The Dalles. And David Kenney his cribbage partner of Lebanon, Oregon.
John spent his last two years at the VA home in The Dalles, where he also had many friends.
John will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. At his request there will be no services. He will be buried with his parents in Shelton, Washington.
