Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
JoAnn McCullough Brace passed gently on Sept. 2, 2017, with her husband of 68 years by her side.
JoAnn was born in Maude, Okla., on Oct. 28, 1933. She moved to Napa, Calif., as a young child and then moved to Parkdale, Ore., in 1949, where she met her husband Bud Brace. They celebrated their 68th anniversary in August of this year.
JoAnn loved many things, but very much loved her husband, five children, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren the most.
She also loved to sew, garden, play pinochle, root for the Oregon Ducks, surf the web on her laptop, shop a good garage sale and probably was one of the first extreme couponers ever!
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Bud Brace; sons, Mike (Peggy), Tom, Chris (Bonnie); daughter, Susan (Randy); many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; little great-great-grandchildren; three dogs, Abby II, Butters and Jilly, that kept her company.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Richard Dean Brace in 2014; parents, William (Tex) and Flora Mae McCullough; brothers, Bill, Herbert and Tommy McCullough; and infant grandson, Dustin Stehman.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. at the family cabin, 3820 Sandlin Road, The Dalles. Lunch will be served, but JoAnn loved a good potluck, so please feel free to bring a favorite dish if you would like.
The family would especially like to thank Heart of Hospice, visiting Health Services, Dr. Ainslinger and Dr. Weiss for their loving care.
