Jack V. Thornton passed away October 14, 2017, in The Dalles, Ore. Jack was born Nov. 30, 1923 and was 93 years of age at the time of his passing.
Jack was born in Dinuba, Calif., to Jake and Maggie Thornton. He grew up in a busy home, in a tight-knit family, as he was one of seven children.
On Dec. 1, 1945, Jack married the love of his life, Audrey. They wed in White Salmon, Wash., and built their family in a two-story log cabin – known as The Jewet Place – that overlooked the Columbia River. Jack always enjoyed making his home feel well-loved and as he got older, he discovered an affinity for planting and growing roses.
Jack then found a career in the telephone industry and relocated to Wenatchee, Wash., with his family. They moved several times and built their lives in various locations, but finally settled in Mt. Vernon, Wash. Jack spent 38-years in the telephone service industry, and 20 years in Mt Vernon before he and Audrey retired and moved to The Dalles, Ore.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; son, Ted Thornton; grandson, Merlyn; two siblings, sister Pete and brother Earl; and parents, Jack and Margie. He is survived by his son, William; two grandchildren, Natalie and Clayton; three great-grandchildren: Tedi, Emma, and Anya; his daughter-in-law, Hanna Kinzle and her husband, Kenneth.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017 at Anderson’s Tribute Center Celilo Chapel (204 E. 4th Street The Dalles, OR 97058) with a graveside to follow at White Salmon Cemetery (Snowden Road White Salmon, WA 98672).
