Homer Curtis Baker

Homer Curtis Baker passed away peacefully on October 13, 2015. He was born on November 11, 1922 in Madras, Ore., and raised in Mosier and The Dalles, Ore. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1942. He was on the State Championship football team in 1941.

He married Phyllis Marjorie Wilson in 1942, and they raised two children in The Dalles: Barbara and Curtis Baker. Homer owned and operated Homer’s Market, a local grocery, hunting and fishing store until 1990. Homer was a much beloved fishing guide, and was one of the first people to design and run a power boat up the lower Deschutes River. He was recently proclaimed as a “Legend of the River” by the Northwest Fishing Guide Association.
