Gayleen Baucum passed away from a stroke on October 16. She was 64.
Gayleen was born to Velma (McGwier) Barletti and Edward L Baucum on New Years’ Day 1953 in Turlock, Calif., Her early childhood was spent moving around until their family settled into The Dalles, Ore., in 1957. She grew up and attended school there before moving to Arlington, Ore., in the summer of 1969. She was May Day Queen 1971, the year she graduated. Her fond memories of growing up in The Dalles and on the Columbia River have been shared over the years.
After graduating, she moved to Gresham, Ore., to attend Mount Hood Community College. She met John Vogel there and they later married in 1973. Together they moved to the valley and settled in Scio. They raised their three children, Katy, Ellie and Cody on their filbert orchard there.
Gayleen was very active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She loved being a mom more than anything. She spent her time and energy being devoted to her family. She loved taking adventures with her grandchildren and teaching them crafts and fun projects. She always had something fun planned to do with them.
Besides spending time with her family, Gayleen enjoyed the company of her friends and her mother. She really loved her recent time working at Ross in Albany spending time with her many friends she made while being there.
Gayleen left this world sooner than expected and will be deeply missed by so many.
She is survived by her mother, Velma Bariletti of Albany; daughters, Katy Rosecrans of Albany and Ellie Jones of Monmouth; son Cody Vogel and wife Kate of Scio; brothers, Jim Baucum and wife Billie of Umatilla and Robert Baucum of Scio; Step-siblings, Debbie Bariletti, Brian Bariletti and Terri Dagget, all of The Dalles. Grandchildren August, Neasen, Kellan, Oriana and Kylie.
She was preceded in death by her fathers, Edward L Baucum and Dennis Bariletti, her nephew James Baucum. A memorial service will be at 1p.m., Monday, Oct. 23, at Albany Immanuel Lutheran Church.
