Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
Flora Duvall, 95, a lifelong resident of The Dalles, Ore., died on October 8, 2015 at her Adult Foster Care home in The Dalles.
She was born on September 2, 1920 in The Dalles. The daughter of John Robert and Margaret (Barbero) Oliver, Flora was the oldest of two children. She was raised in The Dalles, graduating from The Dalles High School in 1938. Flora married Don Duvall on February 10, 1942 in Bremerton, Wash., during World War II. After Don’s Navy service, they returned to The Dalles.
Flora worked as a legal secretary, then she became a ‘mom’ who was active in PTA, Brownies, and 4-H. Most of all, she will always be loved as her three grandsons “Nanny”. They remember their grandparents taking them camping, fishing, and watching their sports activities.
She is survived by her two daughters: Donna Dalton, Vancouver, Wash., Kathy Gonser, The Dalles, and son-in-law Howard; three grandsons: Jason Dalton (Alyssa) of Portland, Ore.; Reg Gonser, Nashville, Tenn.; Tye Gonser, Santa Monica, Calif.; great grandchildren: Charlie, Finley, and Drew Dalton; her brother Chet Oliver of The Dalles; nephews: John, Kent and Don Oliver; second cousin Edwin Anghilante; nieces Jan Leininger, Linda Oram, and nephew Bill Leininger.
As Flora requested, a private memorial was held. As she loved to go to the Senior Center for lunch and activities, remembrances may be made to the Mid-Columbia Senior Center.
